1/72 Zvezda T-14 Armata - Review/Обзор

Salut à tous! On part aujourd'hui sur un nouveau test de maquette, celui du T-14 Armata de chez Zvezda au 1/72.
Hello everyone! Today, we'll review a new model, Zvezda's T-14 Armata in 1/72 scale.

1)Introduction/Введение

 Le T-14 Armata est le plus récent des chars de l'armée russe, qui a été montré pour la première fois lors du défilé du 9 mai 2015. C'est le premier char au monde dont la tourelle est entièrement automatisée, et le blindé est aussi équipé d'un radar autonome, d'un système de défense active "hard kill" et d'un blindage composite de nouvelle génération.
Ce char étant une véritable révolution technologique redéfinissant le concept même du tank, comme le FT-17, le T-34 et le T-64 par le passé, il est étrange qu'une marque russe ait pris tant de temps à produire une maquette de cette fierté nationale! Mais la voilà enfin, et je me suis fait un plaisir de l'acheter.

The T-14 Armata is the Russian Army's latest tank, and was displayed for the first time during the 2015 9th of May parade. It's the first MBT in the world with a fully automated turret, an integrated hard-kill active defence system, and it uses on top of that an autonomous radar and next generation composite armor.
I was surprised to see that a Russian brand took so much time to release this national pride, since the T-14 did redefine what a tank is supposed to be, like the FT-17, T-34 and T-64 before it. But here it is now, and I didn't hesitate before buying the kit.

Т-14 - новейший танк ВС РФ, и его впервые показали на параде 9-го мая 2015г. Он является первым в мире танком, оснащеным полностю автоматической башнёй, интегрированной системой активной защиты, собственным радиолокатором и комбинированной бронёй последного поколения... одновременно.
Этот танк - предмет национальной гордости, и это из-за этого странно, что российский производитель выпускал эту модель только в 2018г. Т-14 стал новым примером современного танка, как "Рено" 17, Т-34 и Т-64 в свое время, и я не смог выдержать, и сразу купил набор!

2)Les grappes/The sprues/Литники 

 La maquette est assez grande et compliquée, on a 5 grappes : une principale format feuille A4, une plus petite principalement dédiée à la tourelle, deux petites identiques avec les roues et des petits accessoires, et une avec les chenilles.
Les pièces du char lui-même sont impeccables : pas une coulure, tout est très fin et proprement moulé, ça fait plaisir à voir. On a beaucoup de petites pièces, certes, mais cela permettra de faire une maquette très bien détaillée et réaliste, donc ce n'est pas un inconvénient.
En plus, on peut voir que tout est fait pour facilement s'emboîter et s'assembler, c'est vraiment très agréable, il faudrait que plus de fabricants adoptent ces méthodes.

It's a big and intricate model, that's build around 5 sprues: one main A4 format one, a smaller one dedicated to turret parts, two identical sprues with roadwheels and accessories, and the tracks.
The parts of the tank itself are stellar: not a trace of flash, everything's finely and cleanly molded, it's pleasant to look at. Of course, there are many small parts, but they'll allow you to build a very detailed and realistic model, so it's alright.
The best part is that you can see how parts are all engineered to fit perfectly with each other. It's quite great, and I wish more manufacturers would push it this far.

Модель - большая и сложная, и она разделяется в 5 литниках: один основный, размера листа А4, один по-меньше для башни, два идентичных для катков и аксессуаров, и один для траков.
Детали танка превосходные: ни одна капля пластика не текла, всё чисто, идеально отлито... На литниках смотреть приятно; там много мелких деталей, но это позволит моделисту собирать реалистическую модель, значит, это не недостаток.
К этому, видно, что у Звезды долго думали, как можно максимально упростить сборку, и дать деталям стабильно сидеть. Жаль, что этого нет у многих других производителей.

Par contre, tout n'est pas beau : il y a une gros défaut qui vient des chenilles : elles sont proprement réalisées, mais ce type de chenilles (en plastique semi rigide, à mettre en place à l'aide d'eau chaude) est vraiment, VRAIMENT NUL A CHIER. Désolé des termes très subjectifs, mais c'est vraiment un truc impossible à mettre en place proprement sans casse ni difficulté, on n'a ni le réalisme des chenilles moulées à coller pièce par pièce, ni le côté pratique des chenilles vinyle : ceci est un compromis à deux balles qui a les désavantages des deux options et finit par être aussi facile à assembler joliment que des chenilles moulées ACE. Au moins, on pourra planquer ces horreurs derrière le blindage latéral.

However, everything's not alright: there's a huge issue coming from the tracks. They're cleanly cast, but these semi-rigid tracks that you have to wrestle in place with hot water are absolute BULLSHIT. Sorry for the subjective opinion, but there's literally no way to put these in place without breaking something or having stuff that looks bad, it isn't as realistic as separate link tracks, it isn't as convenient as vinyl tracks: it's just a rubbish compromise that combines the downsides of both options and ends up as difficult to put together as ACE tracks. At least, I'll be able to hide these abominations behind side skirts.

 Всё за то не прекрасно: у меня возникла значительная проблема, и эта проблема называется "траки". Они хорошо выгладят, но это всё: эти гусеницы, которых надо изнасиловать с помощю горячей водой, просто отвратительные, ОТСТАЛЬНЫЕ. Это далеко не объективное мнение, но эти траки на месте не ставить без страдания и повреждений. Пластиковые траки в отдельных частях лучше выглядят, резиновые траки удобнее, а эти - компромисс, который соединяет недостатки обеих обычных вариантов, и их собирать - так сложно, как собирать пластиковые траки от АСЕ. Но всё не трашно, я смогу этих спрятать за бортовой бронёй.

3) Le montage/Assembly/Cборка

Le montage de la maquette est assez long, mais c'est justifié, car cela permet d'assembler une maquette avec plein de petits détails bien sympathiques. Toutes les pièces s'emboîtent parfaitement, mais il faut parfois faire très attention, car cela se joue au millimètre près, on peut se tromper si on n'est pas très attentif.
Ce n'est pas un montage simple et rapide comme sur le T-80 Trumpeter dont j'ai écrit le test il y a quelques jours, c'est plus proche du mécanisme d'une montre : plein de petites choses finement détaillées qui bougent dans tous les sens, mais tout trouve sa place sans gêner les autres pièces tant que l'on suit bien les instructions.

La notice d'assemblage. C'est très chargé, mais clair. Faites bien attention à la suivre à la lettre!/The instructions. They're packed full of info, but still easy to understand. Make sure to follow them closely!/Инструкции. В них полно всего, но их понимать можно. Обращайтесь на них внимание!

The assembly of the model is long, but it's justified since you can come up with a very detailed model. All pieces fall in place perfectly, but you should pay close attention to the instructions, since it's easy to mess something up if you aren't extremely attentive. 
It isn't a fast-and-easy build like Trumpeter's T-80BV, which I reviewed a couple days ago; it is closer to clockwork: you've got a huge number of tiny parts that each move in their own pattern, but they won't bother each other as long as they're assembled with dexterity and accuracy.

Сборка танка занимает много времени, но этого можно объяснить высоким деталтрованием модели. Всё найдёт своё место, но только если внимательно читаете инструкции; иначе легко ощибаться.
Это конечно не быстросборка, как Т-80БВ от Трампетера, обзор которого я сделал пару дней назад. Можно модель сравнивать с чвсвми: есть кучка мелких, аккуратно созданных деталей, которые все идут по своим путям, но друг друга мешать не будут, пока вы точно всё собрали, как было показано в инструкциях.

 4)Conclusion/Заключение


 Zvezda a réalisé une superbe maquette avec ce T-14 au 1/72 ; le plastique est proprement moulé même pour les parties les plus fines, la complexité du montage est mitigée par les instructions de qualité et par la facilité à emboîter les pièces entre elles, et le plastique employé est a un excellent rapport solidité/flexibilité qui permet d'ajuster les pièces entre elles sans devoir gratter ou combler quoi que ce soit.
Les chenilles restent un point noir de la maquette, mais ça n'est pas la mort non plus. Je peux donc recommander le kit de chez Zvezda à tous les modélistes intéressés par les blindés russes modernes, tant qu'ils ont un peu d'expérience : un débutant sera perdu au milieu de ces grandes grappes et de toutes ces petites pièces, et je ne peux que le rediriger vers un kit du genre BTR-80 Trumpeter ou BMD-2 S-Model.

Zvezda's 1/72 scale T-14 is quite a beautiful piece; everything's cleanly cast, up to the smallest details, the complexity of the assembly is mitigated by the accurate instructions and by the efforts made by the manufacturer to make sure parts all fit with each other, and you don't need to sand or fill anything due to the good toughness/flexibility ratio of the plastic.
The tracks are still a non-negligible downside, but hey, it's not that bad. I can recommend this model to every Russian modern armor enthusiast, as long as they're not beginners; if it's one of your first models, you'll feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of small parts. Said beginner would be better off with something like Trumpeter's BTR-80 or S-Model's BMD-2.

 Т-14 от Звезды в 72-ом масштабе - хорошая модель, у которой все части качественно отлиты до самых маленьких деталей, и точные инструкции и удобность сборки уменьшат сложностю этой модели. К этому, пластмасса одновременно достаточно гибкая, чтобы не мешать сборку, и достаточно прочная, чтобы не повредить деталей.
Гусеницы, конечно, проблематичные, но это всё равно не катастрофа. Я могу всем любителям современной российской техники рекомендовать эту модель, пока у них есть опыт: если Т-14 - чья-то первая модель, бедный моделист может утонуть в таком море деталей. Лучше начинать с чем-нибудь, как БТР-80 от Трампетера или БМД-2 от S-Model.

Les décalcomanies ne sont pas mal, le nombre est limité mais la qualité bonne./Decals aren't half bad, there isn't a lot of them, but the quality's here./Декалы совсем неплохие, их мало, но они качественно распечатаны.
